AAA Washington: Memorial Day Fuel Gauge ReportBELLEVUE, Wash., May 16 -- In time for the Memorial Day Weekend traveler, Washington fuel prices have stabilized over the past few months averaging $1.294 for self-serve, regular unleaded. The average price in the West is $1.364, still the highest regional average in the nation. Memorial Day Weekend motorists are expected to be out in force locally, camping and visiting family and friends in the region. Anticipated hot destinations are Vancouver B.C., the Olympic Peninsula, the Washington and Oregon Coasts, and the Columbia Gorge. By plane, Washingtonians are headed to Disneyland in Anaheim, Reno and Las Vegas. Compared to Memorial Day 1996, when fuel prices averaged $1.440 per gallon of self-serve unleaded, prices are down 14.6 cents. AAA Washington is a not-for-profit organization with 13 offices in central and western Washington.
