Canadian Auto Workers Union Targets U.S. Consulate For Demonstration in Salmon DisputeVANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 12 -- Approximately one thousand (1000) Canadian Auto Workers union delegates and guests to the union's convention in Vancouver will march to the U.S. Consulate (Thurlow and Pender) tomorrow at 12:30pm to demonstrate their support for maintaining Canada's salmon stocks and the jobs of thousands of CAW members in the West coast fishery. CAW President, Buzz Hargrove, in his key-note address to the convention noted that while the Americans are our friends and neighbours they have an obligation to preserve not pillage the fishery. Hargrove applauded the actions of the members of UFAWU-CAW in blocking the ferry which clearly led to putting the issue on the international scene and exerting pressure on negotiators. As well he supported the actions of the Clark government in trying to get a fair and equitable settlement. However, he was very critical of the Canadian government's exclusion of Clark from the Canadian delegation. SOURCE Canadian Auto Workers
