Chrysler Statement on Reversal of California DMV Decision

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 20 -- Statement may be attributed
to Lewis H. Goldfarb, Assistant General Counsel, Chrysler Corporation
:

"We're delighted by today's ruling. The California New Motor Vehicle
Board has confirmed what we've been saying from the start of this misguided
prosecution: Chrysler Corporation has complied with state laws governing the
sale of repurchased vehicles.
"The ruling also confirms serious misconduct by the Department of Motor
Vehicles. The Board ruled that the DMV concealed evidence and suppressed
documents, depriving Chrysler of a fair hearing.
"We would hope that this reversal of the DMV's onerous decision and
penalties prompts the Department to examine its own conduct.
"The New Motor Vehicle Board ruling agrees with the critical points in
Chrysler's defense and finds that the DMV's actions were not supported by the
weight of the evidence.
"It confirms that Chrysler did the necessary repairs, made the required
disclosures, provided the required warranties and used the proper procedures
in selling repurchased vehicles.
"We hope that the ruling will bring to a close this unfortunate action by
the Department of Motor Vehicles."
