Automotive Youth Educational System Announces Non-Profit StatusDETROIT, Oct. 8 -- The Automotive Youth Educational System (AYES), has been granted 501 (c) (3) status making it a non-profit organization. Non-profit status was granted in August of this year with the new name, AYES, Inc. being assumed. As a 501 (c) (3) organization, AYES will be classified as a public charity requiring one third of all monetary support to come from the general public and government funding. The program is eligible to also receive some funding from private endowments. At the time of the announcement, Stan Moore, president of AYES, Inc. said, "Our new non-profit status opens a world of unique opportunities for this program and the Industry as well." Moore continued, "Automotive repair work has changed dramatically over the years making automotive service technicians a critical resource and a viable career path for many students. This message needs to reach each and every high school counselor, student and their parents." AYES, Inc. will be the first non-profit program of its kind providing a service to the entire automotive industry. With the support of federal grants and private donations, AYES will truly be an industry-wide, self-sustaining organization that is solely dedicated to the recruitment and development of future service technicians for automotive manufacturer dealer franchises. AYES currently is endorsed by General Motors Corporation, Chrysler Corporation, the Automotive Vocational Association (AVA), the National Automotive Dealers Association (NADA), Vocational Clubs of America (VICA) and the National Automotive Technicians Educational Foundation (NATEF). According to Moore, AYES has attracted the interest of several import automotive manufacturers and has promise to eventually become an international organization. The newly formed Board of Directors for AYES, Inc. will be chaired by Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of General Motors Corporation, John F. Smith, Jr., and co-chaired by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chrysler Corporation, Robert J. Eaton. Both will be attending the October 8 National Advisory Board meeting.
