Lexus Reports 24.3 Percent October Sales Growth - Best Ever

    TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 4 -- Lexus today reported the best
October sales month in its history with total sales of 9,150, a 24.3 percent
increase over the same period last year.  Year-to-date Lexus sales continue to
thrive with 79,465 units sold, a 21.1 percent increase over last year.
    The launch of the all-new GS 400/300 sport sedan got off to a tremendous
start with 2,469 sales in only three weeks.
    "With several record-setting months already in the books combined with the
successful launch of the new GS and upgraded LS 400, we are on pace to shatter
our all-time sales record," said Jim Press, Lexus senior vice president and
general manager.  "With two new sport utility vehicles coming in 1998 there is
no end in sight to our strong sales momentum."
    The LS 400 prestige luxury sedan reported strong sales of 1,973 units, an
increase of 26.9 percent over the same period last year.
    Despite the launch of the new GS, the ES 300 sedan continued to post
strong sales with 3,873 units sold, 8 percent greater than last month and,
with year-to-date ES sales of 48,699 units, it's a 39 percent increase over
last year's record pace.
    The LX 450 sport utility vehicle posted sales of 451 units sold.  Year-to-
date LX 450 sales are up 5.6 percent over last year.
    The SC 300 Sport Coupe recorded 179 units sold, a 16 percent decrease over
the same period last year.  Year-to-date sales of the SC 300 are up 50.7
percent.
