Chrysler Posts Sales Records for November

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 2 -- Chrysler Corporation
sold 180,002 vehicles in November, an all-time record for the month,
surpassing the previous November record of 179,628 set in 1996.
Numerous sales records were set in November, including overall vehicle
sales, truck sales, and records for Dodge Neon, Dodge Stratus, Chrysler
Sebring Coupe, Plymouth Breeze, Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram. In addition,
Dodge Division posted a record November, up 7% over last year.
"What makes November's sales so significant is that we achieved these
numbers with virtually no inventory of the all-new Dodge Durango and Dodge
Intrepid models, " said James P. Holden, Executive Vice President - Sales and
Marketing. "As we make more Intrepid and Durango models available to our
customers, as well as the upcoming Chrysler Concorde, we will enter the new
year in a very strong position."
By body group, November sales records were achieved for Dodge and
Plymouth Neon, a second consecutive monthly record, and Chrysler Cirrus/Dodge
Stratus/Plymouth Breeze, a record for the third consecutive month.
Passenger car sales for November totalled 47,539, down 5% from 52,101
units a year ago. Record truck sales, including pickups, sport utilities,
minivans and Jeep(R) vehicles, were 132,463, up 8% from 127,527 units posted
in November 1996. Sport utility vehicles (Jeep models plus Dodge Durango)
achieved sales of 48,636 units, an 18% increase over November 1996.
"November was very encouraging given a very competitive market this year,
in large part due to our strong truck business," said Holden. "Once we have
full availability of our new Intrepid and Concorde models, we will be in a
position to push for significant growth in the car business as well."
For calendar year to date through November, Chrysler's U.S. sales were
2,113,597 units, compared with 2,271,022 during the same period a year ago.
