Chrysler Carries on Legacy and Introduces the 1999 300M At the North American International Auto ShowAUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 5 -- Chrysler Corporation's innovative perspective of the automobile industry in 1955 produced the Chrysler C-300, which combined the ultimate speed of a sports car with the comfort of a full-size sedan. It was the first of the company's famed "letter series" cars, which set the pace for performance and engineering excellence throughout the following decade. Fast forward to 1999. After a hiatus of more than three decades, the Chrysler brand rekindles this cherished legacy with the all-new 300M, a car born of the same passion for engineering excellence and "rebel" attitude that defined those prestigious letter series cars, but with a modern interpretation for today's driving enthusiasts. "The 1999 Chrysler 300M embodies the same philosophy and pedigree of those early cars, but with a very contemporary interpretation of what performance has come to mean in this class of car," said Robert J. Eaton, Chairman, Chrysler Corporation. "The 300M answers the call for driving enthusiasts who want power, agility and cutting-edge engineering, but in a stunning design that immediately sets them apart from look-alike sedans." With a new all-aluminum multi-valve high-output 3.5-liter engine, specially tuned suspension and "five meter" overall length, the 1999 Chrysler 300M is designed to meet and exceed the tastes and requirements of both American and international drivers. Set for introduction later this year, the Chrysler 300M will be sold in the United States, as well as Chrysler's key overseas markets. "The Chrysler 300M is designed to appeal to driving enthusiasts both here and abroad," said Martin R. Levine, General Manager - Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep(R) division. "This car goes a long way in clearly defining what Chrysler is about the world over, building on the American philosophy of freedom and abundance in vehicles that are driver-oriented, well engineered and full of relevant technology." The 1999 Chrysler 300M has a long list of features to make it a true contender in the performance/luxury market. Standard equipment includes an all-aluminum 3.5-liter engine which delivers an impressive 253 horsepower (189 kW), and Chrysler's AutoStick(R) transmission that delivers the performance of a manual with the convenience of an automatic. Anti-lock disc brakes and traction control are standard. The Chrysler 300M will be produced at Chrysler's Bramalea Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada. SOURCE Chrysler Corporation
