1999 Mercury Cougar Introduction is 'Word of the Web'

DETROIT, Jan. 9 -- The 1999 Mercury Cougar is making its
debut on the world wide web, and Internet surfers who visit a special web site
(http://www.1999Cougar.com) have a chance to win the new car through an on-line
promotion, called the '99 Cougar "Word of the Web."
Through the '99 Cougar "Word of the Web," Internet visitors may send an e-
mail postcard of the all-new Cougar to family and friends by filling out a
special form at the new website. Those who fill out the form and receive the
e-mail postcards are automatically entered in a contest with top prizes of two
1999 Mercury Cougars. Other prizes include weekly giveaways of an Intel
Camera Pack and $100 gift certificates to CDNOW, a prominent on-line music
store.
"The '99 Cougar 'Word of the Web' promotion is an innovative way for us to
spread the news about one of the most exciting vehicles to hit the market in
years," said Ian Beavis, marketing communications manager of Lincoln-Mercury
Division. "We know that our customers like to use the web, especially for e-
mailing their friends and family. What better way is there to bring some fun
back into the car business than to have people 'chat' about the Cougar and
possibly win one."
The '99 Cougar "Word of the Web" runs through April and is supported by a
'banner-link' campaign on select e-mail, search engine and affinity web sites.
The promotion also will be featured at the Lincoln-Mercury stand during the
North American International Auto Show in Detroit (January 10-19) where
special equipment and internet connections have been set up. People who enter
the contest during Friday night's Charity Preview also can specify one of ten
charities to benefit from their contribution to the black-tie benefit.
The unique postcard system for the '99 Cougar "Word of the Web" promotion
was developed by Wunderman Cato Johnson and technicians from the Intel
Corporation(TM). The website (http://www.1999Cougar.com) features Intel's Create and
Share Camera Pack(TM) system, which is designed for everyday home use.
The 1999 Mercury Cougar is a two-door specialty sports coupe based on the
highly acclaimed Mystique platform, known for its outstanding driving
dynamics. The all-new vehicle will be seen at auto shows around the U.S. in
1998 and will go on sale this spring.

    Other Great Lincoln-Mercury Web Features
Web surfers who are interested in learning about other Mercury products
will be able to link to the division's site through the '99 Cougar "Word of
the Web" page. The Mercury Destination web page (http://www.mercuryvehicles.com)
allows potential customers to see products in the electronic showroom, view
the Mercury "Imagine TV" commercials and link to 'Great Offers' from one of 29
Lincoln-Mercury Dealer Associations.
Unlike other automotive web sites, Lincoln-Mercury offers detailed sales
information from the corporate offices, regional offices and local dealers on
a single web site (http://www.lincolnmercury.com). The newly expanded Lincoln-
Mercury site offers localized information for customers in every part of the
United States, including regional vehicle offers, promotions and a calendar of
events.
Customers who want to find a nearby Lincoln-Mercury dealership can use the
latest mapping technology which gives detailed directions to dealerships from
any address. In support of this effort, all Lincoln-Mercury dealers are now
on the Internet with their own pages featuring information about their staff
and business hours.
