Automobile Magazine to Unveil Its 1998 All-Stars At This Year's New York International Auto ShowNEW YORK, March 25 -- The editors of Automobile Magazine, a PRIMEDIA consumer publication, will reveal the Automobile Magazine 1998 All-Stars at a champagne press reception scheduled for 3:55 p.m. on April 8 at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) at the Jacob Javits Center. This will be the first time in Automobile Magazine's 12-year history that the Automobile Magazine All-Stars will be unveiled at the NYIAS. In describing another "first" surrounding the selections, Founder and Editor David E. Davis, Jr. stated: "We have changed our approach to the Automobile Magazine All-Stars. Instead of picking the 1O or 12 vehicles that we believe to be the most interesting and important of the year, we have decided to choose vehicles that we believe to be the best of their kinds within sharply defined market segments." The editors' selections will remain secret until the April 8 press event. Yet another Automobile Magazine All-Stars "first": An on-page reader poll appeared in the January 1998 issue, that asked readers to make their own best-of-class vehicle selections. Mr. Davis added: "We have further improved our approach by asking our readers to state their preferences, knowing full well that they are knowledgeable enthusiasts who don't always agree with us. They came through like champions, as they always do, and we received several thousand ballots by mail, by fax, and over the Internet. It was gratifying to learn that readers agreed with us often, or chose our winners within their top five." Automobile Magazine's reader and editor All-Star selections will be juxtaposed in the May 1998 issue, on newsstands April 9. Automobile Magazine, a contemporary, lifestyle-oriented magazine, is a PRIMEDIA consumer publication. Other PRIMEDIA titles include Seventeen, New York, Modern Bride and Chicago Magazine.
