Automobile Magazine Unveils Its Automobile Magazine 1998 All-Stars At New York International Auto Show

    NEW YORK, April 8 -- The editors of Automobile Magazine, a
PRIMEDIA consumer publication, revealed the Automobile Magazine 1998 All-Stars
at a champagne press reception this afternoon at the New York International
Auto Show.  This was the first time in the magazine's 12-year history that
the Automobile Magazine All-Stars were unveiled at the New York International
Auto Show.
    The winners are: Best Luxury Sedan (Large), 1998 Audi A8; Best Sports
Sedan, 1998 BMW 540I; Best Luxury Sedan (Mid-Size), 1998 BMW 328I; Best Sport
Utility Vehicle (Large), 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe, 1998 GMC Yukon; Best Minivan,
1998 Chrysler Town & Country, 1998 Dodge Caravan, 1998 Plymouth Voyager; Best
Entry-Level Sedan, 1998 Ford Contour, 1998 Mercury Mystique; Best Pickup, 1998
Ford  F-150; Best Coupe, 1998 Honda Prelude; Best Luxury Coupe, 1998 Jaguar
XK8; Best Family Sedan, 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue; Best Sports Car, 1998
Porsche 911; Best Sport Utility Vehicle (Mid-size/small), 1998 Jeep Grand
Cherokee.
    Automobile Magazine Founder and Editor David E. Davis, Jr. stated:  "We
have changed our approach to the Automobile Magazine All-Stars.  Instead of
picking the 10 or 12 vehicles that we believe to be the most interesting and
important of the year, we have decided to choose vehicles that we believe to
be the best of their kinds within sharply defined market segments."  An
on-page reader poll appeared in the January issue, and thousands of readers
returned ballots by mail, fax and the Internet.  Readers' picks will be
juxtaposed with editors' selections in the May issue of Automobile Magazine,
on newsstands tomorrow.
