Breed Technologies Sponsors Seat Belt Contest at Macomb High Schools

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., April 30 -- Breed Technologies
is sponsoring the annual Macomb (County) High School Seat Belt
Contest in an effort to promote seat belt usage among students.
The contest, organized by the Macomb Traffic Information Organization,
will award a cash donation to the school with the highest percentage of seat
belt usage. Thirty-one schools are competing.
"This contest continues to be an excellent way to increase the percentage
of students wearing seat belts," said Peter Provenzano, president of the
Macomb Traffic Information Organization and senior quality liaison engineer
for Breed Technologies.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three high schools with the highest
percentage of seat belt usage. Usage will be monitored daily as students
enter school property by traffic safety officials and other contest officials
during a 3-week period.
An award ceremony, with state and county dignitaries, is scheduled for
Thursday, May 14, to take place at the winning school. The first place school
will receive $1,000, second place will win $500 and third will be awarded
$250. The awards are to be used for student activities.
The Macomb Traffic Information Organization consists of law enforcement
officers and private business and county leaders from Macomb County and local
government. The organization strives to promote a safe environment for all
Macomb County residents -- from infants to senior citizens -- through
classroom education and public demonstrations. Topics include drug programs
such as DARE and the proper use of seat belts and child safety seats.
