NHTSA Releases Model Year 1998 Crash Test Results

20 May 1998

NHTSA Releases Final Group of Model Year 1998 Frontal and Side Crash Test Results
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today released
the fourth and final group of frontal- and side-impact crash test results for
model year 1998 vehicles.
The release, NHTSA 26-98, shows frontal crash test results for the Nissan
Altima four-door, Mercedes-Benz ML320 AWD four-door utility, and the Toyota
RAV4 4x4 utility. These new test results, along with results for vehicles
tested previously that remain valid because the same or essentially the same
vehicles are being sold in model year 1998, provide frontal impact safety
information on a total of 95 vehicles.
Side-impact test results included are for the Hyundai Elantra four-door
and the Lexus ES300 four-door. These new test results, along with results for
vehicles tested previously that remain valid because the manufacturers are
selling the same or essentially the same vehicles in model year 1998, provide
side-impact safety information on a total of 56 passenger cars.
The release can be obtained by calling 202-366-9550, NHTSA's Office of
Public and Consumer Affairs, or by visiting NHTSA's Web site,
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov.
