8 July 1998
UAW Responds to Peregrine Plant Closing AnnouncementDETROIT, July 8 -- Responding to yesterday's announcement by Peregrine Incorporated that they will close two plants formerly owned by General Motors at which hourly workers are represented by the UAW, UAW Vice President Richard Shoemaker said, "these closings, if carried out as announced, would directly violate the terms of the labor contract which Peregrine assumed when it acquired these facilities." "The UAW has communicated with officials of Peregrine," Shoemaker added, "and assured them that we will vigorously enforce the contractual provisions which protect our members at these plants."
