Mack, UAW Announce New Three-Year Agreement

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa.--July 20, 1998--United Auto Workers Vice President Jack Laskowski and Mack Executive Vice President Samuel L. Torrence announced Monday that employees represented by the UAW have ratified a new three- year master contract covering about 3,500 UAW members at Mack facilities in four states.
The new contract takes effect today and will expire on Oct. 1, 2001.
"Once again, the UAW and Mack have demonstrated their commitment to working in partnership toward our shared goals," said Torrence. "This agreement is a clear sign of the cooperative spirit that exists between Mack and the UAW. It will allow the company to continue growing our business, and improving our competitive position."
Laskowski and Torrence called the contract a "win-win" agreement, and praised the work of local negotiators for both parties, whose efforts resulted in an agreement reached more than three months before the existing contract expired.
The new contract covers members of UAW local No. 677 in Allentown, Macungie and Middletown, Pa.; No. 171 and No. 1247 in Hagerstown, Md; No. 2301 in Severn, Md; No. 5841 in Winnsboro, S.C. and No. 472 in Atlanta, Ga.
