Stanley/Whistler Hires Famous Crime Fighter Dick Tracy as Spokesperson for New Quiet-Glide Garage Door Openers!

    BIRMINGHAM, Mich.--AUG. 11, 1998--

    Famous Crime Fighter Signs on to Promote Garage Security

    Stanley/Whistler today announced that its has hired Dick Tracy to be the celebrity spokesperson for the company's new Quiet-Glide(TM) Series of garage door openers. The Quiet-Glide systems feature eight safety and security functions including SecureCode(TM), Stanley/Whistler's rolling code technology that randomly selects from 4.2 billion opening codes -- thieves can't break the opener's code system. Tracy's reputation as a famous crime fighter reinforces Stanley/Whistler's commitment to safety, security, quality and dependability in all its products.
    Tracy's image will appear in the Quiet-Glide Series' point-of-purchase displays at reputable retailers throughout the United States and Canada, including Canadian Tire, Home Depot, HQ Hechinger/ Builders Square, Kmart, Meijers, Menard's and Wal-Mart. The program is the first effort in the garage door industry to introduce true consumer marketing elements to all aspects of its packaging, point-of-purchase and sales collateral. This unconventional initiative will enhance Stanley/Whistler's brand recognition and promote point-of-purchase sales.

    Dick Tracy, private eye, comes to Stanley/Whistler with more than 50 years of crime fighting experience. While representing the Quiet-Glide Series, he will continues his long-term relationship with the Chicago Tribune, and, "always get his man," via syndication in newspapers nationwide. Although he could not be reached for comment, Dick Tracy was rumored to be shopping for a new trench coat for his debut in the Stanley/Whistler booth (#41128) at the National Hardware Show in Chicago, August 16 - 19th.
