Porsche To Launch 1999 911 Carrera 4ATLANTA, Sept. 25 -- Porsche Cars North America and Porsche Cars Canada today released initial details of Porsche's latest all-wheel drive vehicle, the 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4. Scheduled to appear in North American Porsche dealerships in early 1999, the new 911 Carrera 4 shares its styling cues with the 1999 911 Carrera released in the spring of this year. Additionally, the new Carrera 4 incorporates an all-wheel drive system utilizing a viscous clutch as well as an exclusive new Porsche Stability Management System designed to optimize traction, braking and handling. The new Carrera 4 is also the first all-wheel drive Porsche to be equipped with the Tiptronic S automatic transmission system. This five-speed automatic gearbox is offered as an option in place of the standard six-speed manual transmission. Like the 1999 911 Carrera, the new 911 Carrera 4 is powered by a liquid-cooled, horizontally opposed, six-cylinder engine producing 296 horsepower and 258 ft. lbs. of torque. The 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 will make its public debut in January of next year at auto shows in Detroit and Los Angeles.
