Toyota To Feature All-New Tundra Full-Size Pickup Truck at Show

6 November 1998

Toyota To Feature All-New Tundra Full-Size Pickup Truck at 1998 South Florida International Auto Show
MIAMI, Nov. 6 -- Visitors to the 28th annual South Florida
International Auto Show will be treated to a special sneak peek of the all-new
Toyota Tundra full-size pickup truck. The Miami show is among a select number
of auto shows that will be displaying the rugged new truck before it reaches
dealer showrooms in late spring of 1999.
The long-awaited Tundra represents Toyota's first venture into the full-
size truck segment. Tundra will offer a powerful 4.7-liter V8 engine that
will deliver approximately 245-horsepower and haul a maximum payload of nearly
one ton.
Tundra will be available in a wide variety of configurations powered by
either V8 or V6 engines, including two- or four-wheel drive, two-door regular
cab with an eight-foot bed or four-door Access Cab with a six-and-a-half-foot
bed.
Tundra will be built exclusively at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana,
an all-new $1.2-billion facility located in Gibson County, Ind.
Show visitors will also see the all-new 1999 Toyota Camry Solara, Toyota's
newest entry in the two-door sport-coupe segment. Designed, engineered and
built in North America, Solara features sporty, yet elegant, styling with fun-
to-drive power and performance, complimented by new levels of luxury, comfort
and convenience.
    Camry Solara gives buyers a choice of either a 200-horsepower 3.0-liter V6
or 135-horsepower 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine backed by either a five-speed
manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to Tundra and Solara, the show will feature other models in
Toyota's 1999 lineup including 4Runner, Toyota's popular sport utility vehicle
(SUV). The 4Runner receives numerous amenity upgrades for 1999, improving its
already impressive list of standard and optional features. A new enhanced
sport package is available on SR5 model 4Runners and will include front and
rear color-keyed bumpers, a new wheel design, fender flares and a hood scoop.
The 4Runner Limited model features a new four-wheel-drive (4WD) system
featuring a full-time 4WD mode.
    Other Toyotas on display include Camry, the best-selling car in America;
the ever-popular Corolla; the full-size Avalon; the sporty Celica; the RAV4
mini-SUV; the big and powerful Land Cruiser SUV; and the line of rugged Tacoma
pickup trucks.
