Ford Employees in Chicago Build on Holiday Spirit By Collecting Food for Needy FamiliesCHICAGO, Nov. 23 -- Ford employees at the Chicago Assembly Plant collected more than 8,000 cans of food through an annual Thanksgiving food drive. The food will be distributed by the Salvation Army to needy families throughout Chicagoland. Food was collected throughout the plant all week long with local businesses, such as Tyson Ford, Dick James Ford and Aldi, lending support as well. This is the 6th annual Thanksgiving food drive at the Chicago Assembly Plant. "We are very happy to be able to help those in need in our community," said Randy Griffin, plant manager. "The employees at this plant recognize working together to build a better community is as important as building a better car." In addition to the food drive, plant employees held a Winter Clothing & Coat Drive earlier this month to help women and children in the community. More than 1,000 lbs of clothing were collected and donated to Family Rescue, a home for battered woman. The Chicago Assembly plant employs more than 2,500 people and builds the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. The plant has built more than 10 million vehicles in Chicago since it opened in 1924.
