Vandergriff Chevrolet Will Host 'Birth of a Legend'

3 December 1998

Vandergriff Chevrolet Will Host the World Premiere Of 'Birth of a Legend' Specially Made for HDTV
ARLINGTON, Texas, Dec. 3 -- Vandergriff Chevrolet will host
the world premiere of "Birth of a Legend," a 12 minute production made
specially for the new high definition television format (HDTV). Shot in
Arlington (at the original Vandergriff dealership building at Division and
Center Streets) and New Mexico, the video features classic and contemporary
Corvettes journeying down the legendary Route 66.
Produced and directed by Brian Greene, of Greene HD Productions, the video
was created to showcase HDTV technology. One of fewer than a dozen
productions made exclusively for the new format, "Birth of a Legend" offers a
nostalgic view of some of America's fast fading scenic past.
To accommodate the large numbers of individuals who are expected to see
this exciting, new-technology video, Vandergriff Chevrolet has made special
arrangements for three showings per hour (50 persons per screening) Thursday
through Sunday, December 3-6, in special facilities at the dealership.
(Vandergriff Chevrolet is located on I-20 between Cooper St. and Matlock Rd.)
Viewings begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 7 p.m. each day. Admission is
free.
"High Definition Television is a new technology, as radically different in
viewing quality as color television was over black & white TV in the early
60's," said Victor Vandergriff, vice president, Vandergriff Acura, Honda and
Chevrolet. "We are thrilled to be one of the very first companies to employ
this dynamic new television to tell an important story."
"Birth of a Legend" contrasts the old and the new. The piece begins with
vintage black and white footage of the first Corvette in 1953. It moves
forward with the 1963 and 1966 body styles before introducing the all new 1999
Corvette. Along the way, the viewer takes a nostalgic ride down Route 66 in
vivid visuals and with music of the era.
Five vintage, classic and contemporary Corvettes are on display at the
dealership in "the world's slowest Corvette race." Admission to view "Birth
of a Legend" and to see the Corvettes on display is free. However, admission
tickets, available at the dealership, will assure a seat to view this piece of
Americana.
Vandergriff Chevrolet is part of the Vandergriff Group of automobile
dealerships. One of the oldest dealerships in the Dallas/Fort Worth
Metroplex, Vandergriff is located at 1200 West I-20 in Arlington, Texas. For
more information about the showing, "Birth of a Legend" or Vandergriff
