Liberty Mutual Reduces Pa. Auto Insurance Rates; Overall Reduction is 3.4 Percent

NEW CASTLE, Pa.--April 20, 1999--Liberty Mutual Group announced today that the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance has approved a company request to reduce personal automobile rates by an overall 3.4 percent in the Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Company and The First Liberty Insurance Corporation, effective April 5, 1999.
The reduced rates result from an increased Multi-Car Discount and the introduction of a Mature Driver class for operators age 40 through 64.
"We see this as an investment in growth for our business in Pennsylvania," said Lew Ayers, Liberty Mutual Regional Vice President. "Losses are down in many segments of our business, and we wanted to pass along those savings to our customers."
In addition, Liberty Mutual has increased its automobile policy discount for its Pennsylvania Group Savings Plus(R) customers from 5 percent to 10 percent. This comprehensive program features auto, home and renters insurance at discounted group rates and with convenient payment options. Group Savings Plus is available to employees of client companies and members of certain affinity groups such as credit unions and alumni associations.
Current Liberty Mutual customers will realize the rate reduction as their private passenger auto policies renew on or after May 10. While most policyholders will see their rates decrease, some may see rates increase, depending on factors such as coverage purchased, number of vehicles, and location.
Liberty Mutual Group is the ninth-largest auto insurer in Pennsylvania, with 92,000 customers and more than $112 million of premium in force. Liberty Mutual works with and supports the initiatives of many local and national non-profit organizations that advocate safety in the home, workplace and on the highways, including: Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, National Safety Council and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).
