Nissan Xterra Outdoor Lifestlye Tour Offers Sneak Peek of New SUV in 12 U.S. MarketsNew Program Brings 'Showroom' to Outdoor Hot Spots GARDENA, Calif., May 3 -- Nissan North America, Inc., today announced the launch of the "Xterra Outdoor Lifestyle Tour," which gives consumers a preview of the all-new Xterra sport utility vehicle prior to its availability at Nissan dealerships this summer. The tour started in Denver recently and will visit another 11 major U.S. markets through mid-July. The Xterra Outdoor Lifestyle Tour is designed to offer outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to catch a sneak peek of Xterra in its natural settings- atop mountains, on the beach, near the river or the trailhead. The SUV will appear during the day at various outdoor recreation areas in each tour city during a three-week period, as well as at clubs, concerts and other hip nightspots at night. In addition to seeing and learning about Xterra in these locations, consumers will be asked to evaluate it. Prior to this tour, Xterra sightings have been confined primarily to select media. "Before we built Xterra, we visited with outdoor enthusiasts in their 'habitats' to best understand what they needed in an SUV," said Andrew Polsinelli, Nissan's Xterra Model Line Planner. "We planned the Xterra Outdoor Lifestyle Tour as a way to show these consumers that we took their comments to heart- this SUV truly reflects their preferences." Markets on the Xterra Outdoor Lifestyle Tour schedule include Denver, Houston, Dallas, South Florida, San Diego/Orange County, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, New York City, Chicago and Boston. The 2000 Xterra was designed to put the "utility" back in sport utility vehicles. Xterra is equipped to take drivers and their gear beyond the pavement - whether it be to their favorite surfing hole, rocky crevice or little-known mountain bike trail. Xterra is available with either a fuel-efficient 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine or a powerful 3.3 liter V6. The two-wheel drive Xterra utilizes the full ladder frame of the four-wheel drive, thereby providing the 2WD model with the same rigidity and ground clearance as the 4WD. Xterra has several category-unique features available, including stadium-style raised rear seats, 10 interior tie-down hooks and a heavy-duty, tubular-style roof rack with integrated gear basket. Also available are waterproof removable rear seat covers, a dual bike mount and a first aid kit. Xterra is the first Nissan completely designed, engineered and built in the United States. It will be produced at Nissan's plant in Smyrna, Tenn. Pricing for Xterra should be announced in late May. The popular XE models, standard equipped with a 3.3-liter V6 engine, air conditioning and ABS, are anticipated to be priced between $19,000 and $22,000. "We hope outdoor enthusiasts everywhere will think of Xterra as part of their gear - as rugged and reliable as the other quality equipment they use," Polsinelli said. "Xterra is a vehicle that will help them enjoy their physical pursuits to the fullest." In North America, Nissan's operations include styling, engineering, manufacturing, sales, consumer and corporate financing, and industrial and textile equipment. Nissan in North America employs more than 20,000 people in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and generates more than 70,000 jobs through more than 1,500 Nissan and Infiniti dealerships across the continent.
