New-Car Dealers Increase Service Hours

Weekend and Evening Service Hours Extended to Meet DemandWASHINGTON -- To meet the needs of busy consumers, 60 percent of service departments at franchised new-car dealerships offered either weekend or evening hours last year, an increase of 4 percent from 1997, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association. NADA research also found that service departments were open an average of 53 hours per week, one hour more than in the previous year. Weekend service hours were offered by 33 percent of dealerships, while 11 percent had evening hours. Sixteen percent provided both evening and weekend hours. The National Automobile Dealers Association represents more than 19,500 franchised new-car and -truck dealers holding nearly 40,000 separate franchises, domestic and import.
