New-Car Dealers Increase Service Hours

10 June 1999

Weekend and Evening Service Hours Extended to Meet Demand
WASHINGTON -- To meet the needs of busy consumers, 60 percent of service
departments at franchised new-car dealerships offered either weekend or evening
hours last year, an increase of 4 percent from 1997, according to the National
Automobile Dealers Association.

NADA research also found that service departments were open an average of
53 hours per week, one hour more than in the previous year.

Weekend service hours were offered by 33 percent of dealerships, while 11
percent had evening hours. Sixteen percent provided both evening and weekend
hours.

The National Automobile Dealers Association represents more than 19,500
franchised new-car and -truck dealers holding nearly 40,000 separate
franchises, domestic and import.
