High Performance Driving, Introduction to Next Generation Technology to Highlight Mercedes-Benz' Richmond 'Client on Track'RICHMOND, Va., June 22 -- A select group of clients will get to see first-hand the many benefits of next generation technology while they learn from top professional race car drivers how to improve their driving skills at the annual Mercedes-Benz "Client On Track" event at Richmond International Speedway, June 21-24, 1999. "In this era of impersonal e-commerce and Internet merchandizing, Mercedes-Benz still believes that the best way to build loyal customer advocates is through a one-on-one, hands-on driving experience. In this event, clients get to see the actual benefits of cutting-edge technology under a variety of conditions, including maximum performance in all kinds of weather conditions," says John Marconi, Mercedes-Benz Virginia market manager. Sponsored by Mercedes-Benz USA, Inc. and a group of eight Virginia and Maryland Mercedes-Benz participating retailers, Client On Track participants will have an unequaled opportunity to drive a variety of Mercedes-Benz's latest models on three professionally designed and challenging autocross courses. There will also be a challenging dirt and obstacle course set up to demonstrate the outstanding off-road capabilities of the much-acclaimed ML430 sport utility vehicle. The final treat will be "hot" laps at top speeds with the professionals around the Speedway's challenging oval. Topping the list of new Mercedes-Benz models on hand will be the all-new, ultra-high-tech 2000 S-Class, recently pronounced the "best car in the world" by Automobile Magazine's Mark Gillies. The leaner, sleeker new V8-powered flagship sedan sets new standards for safety, performance, occupant comfort and value in the premium luxury class with such groundbreaking automotive technology as state-of-the-art front, side and head-protection airbags; a new GPS satellite-based navigation system; voice-activated telephone system; an innovative TeleAid system for emergency assistance; new "multicontour," ventilated power seats and head restraint design; and a crystal-clear Bose Beta II sound system. Clients will see demonstrations of other innovative systems designed to provide maximum performance in all kinds of weather conditions. Now standard on most Mercedes-Benz models, for example, are the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which incorporates traction control and helps to prevent slides and spins; and Brake Assist, which reduces braking distances in emergency or "panic" stops. Customer On Track participants will also have the opportunity to test everything from the seductive new CLK430 "supercoupe" and CLK320 Cabriolet to V8-powered ML430, which gives new meaning to the word "sport" in Sport Utility Vehicle. Also on hand will be the sporty C230 Kompressor, acclaimed SLK230 roadster, legendary SL500 roadster, and V8-powered E430 sedan. In morning and afternoon sessions, participants will receive product, safety and driving tips from professional racers, including Casey Mears, the recent winner of the CART Indy Lights Milwaukee 400 who currently leads in the points championship. Joining Mears will be Formula I driver Rupert Keegan, Indy car competitor John Jones, and NASCAR racer Kenny Hendrick.
