DaimlerChrysler Finances Polly Ann Trail in Oakland CountyAUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 28 -- DaimlerChrysler today announced its support with a $250,000 grant for The Polly Ann Trail, an off road path for bicyclists, joggers, horseback riders and non-motorized and pedestrian users in Oakland County. The 12-mile long trail is being created in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources, the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Polly Ann Trail Management Council. The kickoff event at the trail, which is located near the DaimlerChrysler Auburn Hills World Headquarters, attracted numerous "friends of the trail," including state and local government officials, like Michigan Lt. Governor Dick Posthumus. "We are excited at this opportunity to work with the State of Michigan on such a great outdoors project," said W. Frank Fountain, DaimlerChrysler Senior Vice President Government Affairs. "The support of the Polly Ann Trail is another way for DaimlerChrysler to reinforce its long-standing commitment to the environment. "It was only natural that we provide financial assistance to this project," said Fountain, "because we're convinced that the Polly Ann Trail is good for people, good for the environment and good for Oakland County." According to plans, the Polly Ann Trail will connect from the Paint Creek Trail in Rochester and continue to King's Mill in Lapeer County, thus creating a recreational path with a total length of 53 miles. The trail originates in Orion Township and passes through Oxford and Addison townships. "The trail is a symbol of the good that can come when the public and private sectors connect. The Polly Ann Trail is not only a victory for this community, for government and for business," added Fountain. "It's a victory for all those working to preserve and enjoy the scenic beauty of Southeastern Michigan," he said.
