(SOA) announced today the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) on the completely redesigned and re-engineered 2000 model year Legacy and Outback models. The next generation of the popular Legacy and Outback lines builds on the company's heritage of all-wheel drive safety and performance and takes it to the next level. The all-new Legacy and Outback models are wider and more aerodynamic than their predecessors. They have undergone a complete structural redesign making the new vehicles safer and quieter. The new models have an enhanced Subaru All-Wheel Driving System featuring added performance and handling with more low-end and mid-range torque, a new multi-link rear suspension and available viscous limited-slip rear differential. Subaru added higher equipment levels and upgrades across both model lines with a weighted average MSRP increase of only 1.0% or $239. Legacy Brighton and L models now have 2.5 liter engines. New safety features on all models include daytime running lights, front seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters, three-point rear center seatbelts and a rear center seat headrest (most models). Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is now standard across Legacy and Outback models. Front-seat side-impact air bags (SRS), 6-way power driver's seat and limited -- slip rear differential are now standard on the GT Limited and Outback Limited models. Also new for 2000, all Legacy and Outback models now come with standard 24-hour roadside assistance and are emission certified in all 50 states. "Our ability to add equipment to these completely redesigned vehicles for a minimal price increase has resulted in the best value story we've ever had for the Legacy and Outback lines," said Fred Adcock, senior vice president of Sales. The MSRP for the price leader Brighton Wagon begins at $18,395 for manual transmission. For Legacy Sedans, the MSRP starts at $19,195 for the manual transmission L model. The Outback line starts at $22,695 for the manual transmission. Automatic transmission is available on all Legacy and Outback models for $800. It is standard on the Outback Limited Sedan. The redesigned Legacy GT sedans and wagons now come with 6-way power driver's seat and viscous limited-slip rear differential. The GT Wagon features a step roof and dual moon roof standard. Limited models are equipped with front-seat side-impact airbags. For the 2000 model year, the new L models have added a standard 2.5 liter engine, 15-inch wheels and tires, and a step roof with roof rails on the wagon. Brighton models offer their best value ever, adding the 2.5 liter engine, Anti-lock Braking System, power windows and a step roof. OUTBACK The new Outback, designed expressly for the US market, is sleeker, longer and wider. The vehicle has a more aggressive look with new lower body side cladding and wider, larger diameter wheels and tires. Several performance, comfort and convenience features have been added throughout the Outback line, including liquid filled engine mounts and a standard 6-way power driver's seat. Outback Limited models now come standard with power moonroof (dual power moonroof for the wagon), leather-trimmed upholstery and the All-Weather Package which includes dual mode heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, front windshield wiper deicer and viscous limited-slip rear differential.
