Subaru Announces Voluntary Repair Campaign of 1994-1995 Impreza And 1995-1996 Legacy Vehicles
Company Issues National Repair Campaign to Remove Front Tow-Hooks

CHERRY HILL, N.J., July 6 -- Subaru of America, Inc. today
announced a voluntary repair campaign of some 1994-1995 model year Impreza and
some 1995-1996 model year Legacy vehicles, excluding Outback models.
The campaign involves the removal of the front tow-hooks to eliminate risk
of air bag deployment after sharp tow-hook contact with curbs, dips, speed
bumps, potholes, railroad tracks and other similar road hazards. The removal
of the front tow-hook has no impact on the performance or safety of the
vehicle. Subaru is aware of a few isolated incidents where tow-hooks may have
caused air bag deployment. However, the company does not know of any serious
injuries that have occurred.
This campaign affects approximately 95,000 Impreza and Legacy vehicles
excluding Outback models. All registered owners of vehicles potentially
affected by the voluntary campaign have been notified by mail. They have been
asked to return their vehicles to a Subaru dealer for tow-hook removal.
Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy
Industries Ltd. of Japan. Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company
markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a
network of nearly 600 franchised dealers across the United States. The
company's American manufacturing plant, Subaru Isuzu Automotive, Inc., located
near Lafayette, Ind., produces all Legacy models sold in the U.S., including
the Outback and Sport Utility Sedan.
