Mazda Announces MPV Minivan RecallIRVINE, Calif., July 6 -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced it is voluntarily recalling its 2000-model-year MPV minivan for replacement of the vehicle's lower intake manifold assembly. Due to the limited number of customer vehicles involved, Mazda has already contacted owners by telephone. "We addressed this problem very quickly and only 87 of the affected vehicles reached consumers and we've contacted all of them by phone," said Duke Hale, vice president of customer service and parts operations for MNAO. "The balance are in dealer, port or distribution inventories and are already receiving the necessary modifications." Mazda has found that certain 2000-model MPV minivans were assembled with the wrong combination of lower intake manifold, fuel injector and fuel rail assembly, which may cause a rough idle or fuel leak. Mazda is not aware of any fuel leaks arising from this condition, and has been unable to cause leaks during testing. Mazda is asking owners of the affected vehicles to bring them to an authorized Mazda dealer for the inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the lower intake manifold assembly. The repairs should take less than two hours. Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer parts and service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States. Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has over 750 dealerships nationwide and is owned by Mazda Motor Corporation, Hiroshima, Japan.
