Automotive Press Association: Porsche Outlook on Sports Cars Tuesday, July 20, Detroit Athletic ClubDETROIT, July 13 -- Not so long ago, the death knell for the sports car was ringing as baby boomers bore children and minivans became a most popular mode of transportation. Now, with their children raised and baby boomers suffering mid-life crises, sports cars are back in a big way. More than 100,000 were sold in the U.S. last year. A short-lived phenomenon? Find out what sports-car maker Porsche thinks about that when Richard S. Ford, Porsche's executive vice president and chief operating officer, speaks to the Automotive Press Association on Tuesday, July 20. In addition to being responsible for U.S. and Canadian sales and marketing operations, Ford works with Porsche AG on product planning and international marketing strategy. He will be joined by James Morgan, author of the recently published book, "The Distance to the Moon," which delves into Americans' love for the open road and the cars that travel those roads. We'll meet at the Detroit Athletic Club. Refreshments begin at 11:30 a.m.; lunch is at noon. Porsche is our host. Coats and ties are required for men. Please park in the DAC garage. RSVP to Rachelle Handschumacher at 313-937-2518.
