Oil Changes or Fajitas to Benefit the Jimmy Fund; Jiffy Lube and Taco Bell Team Up to Support Cancer Research

BOSTON--Aug. 19, 1999--This summer, Jiffy Lube and Taco Bell are enabling their customers to save money and help take care of their cars, their appetites and their future by contributing to the Jimmy Fund. Both companies are offering up to $25 in savings to customers who contribute $2 to the Jimmy Fund. For every $2 contribution to the Jimmy Fund made at either Jiffy Lube or Taco Bell locations, customers receive a Taco Bell/Jiffy Lube Value Card. The card offers a $5 discount off all future oil changes (until July 31, 2000) at more than 120 participating Jiffy Lube service centers in the six New England states and New York State. It also provides a series of discounts worth more than $10 on Taco Bell products good at the 84 Taco Bell establishments in the region.
"Cancer affects almost everyone in one way or another," says Roger Lockwood, president of the participating Taco Bell franchise companies. "It's exciting to team up with a conscientious company like Jiffy Lube to help researchers find a cure for this terrible disease. We're also delighted to bring added value to our customers while the entire $2 goes to the Jimmy Fund," adds Lockwood.
This marks the third year in a row that New England and New York State Jiffy Lube service centers are helping to raise $250,000 for the Jimmy Fund to support cancer research and care at Boston's world renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This is the first year they have teamed with Taco Bell.
More than 1.2 million Americans are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in 1999. Of that number nearly 600,000 will die from the disease. Since 1947, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund have been working to change cancer statistics. They have been instrumental in one of the great medical success stories of the past 50 years -- the improvement in cure rates for childhood cancers, from less than 10 percent to greater than 70 percent. And their work has contributed to the reduction of nation's overall cancer death rate over the past decade.
"This teamwork between Taco Bell and Jiffy Lube is what the Jimmy Fund is all about," says Mike Andrews, chairman of the Jimmy Fund. "More than 50 years of progress in cancer research has been made possible by Jimmy Fund supporters continually coming together to fight cancer. We really appreciate Jiffy Lube's commitment and Taco Bell's new involvement -- we've come a long way in treating cancer, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us to find a cure."
Jiffy Lube has helped raise more than $500,000 for the Jimmy Fund since 1997.
"Being part of such an important campaign to fight cancer is part of Jiffy Lube's commitment to the health and well being of the communities where we live and work," said Jiffy Lube President Marc Graham. "We're confident that researchers will someday find a cure."
