BMW Announces Pricing for its 2000 X5 Sports Activity VehicleWOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Aug. 25 -- BMW of North America, Inc. has announced the price of its all-new Sports Activity Vehicle, which will go on sale late this year. Sophisticated Configurator Allows Potential Buyers To "Build" Their Own X5 On Line As the manufacturing process gears up at the factory, virtual production of the newest BMW will be available soon on desktop computers across the country. With the help of advanced interactive technology, customers can click into BMW's "Virtual Center" at http://www.bmwusa.com, select the X5, and "build" their own vehicle. Visitors to the Virtual Center may choose interior and exterior colors, select individually-priced options from BMW's integrated Navigation System to Xenon headlights, and choose vehicle upgrades such as the "Sport" and "Activity" packages. As options and packages are added, the program updates the vehicle's retail price and even allows the user to view enlarged images of their personalized vehicle from the front, side and rear. Finally, the enthusiast can save the X5 of his or her dreams or submit it to a BMW center to place an order. Any Road, Any Time, Any Reason A New Breed of BMW The X5's unitized body, Dynamic Stability Control and overall handling make the drive unmistakably BMW. However, the vehicle's dimensions, suspension and all-wheel-drive capability clearly separate the X5 from anything the German auto manufacturer has ever brought to market. The X5, by its very nature, represents a technological evolution for the BMW marque and an entirely unique driving experience in the segment. BMW engineers have a long history of designing vehicles which meet exacting standards for driving performance, safety and luxury. They were no less careful with the X5. Starting with a clean sheet of paper, designers took the best concepts from BMW sedans and applied them to the revolutionary Sports Activity Vehicle blueprint. The result is the first vehicle that brings the marque's passion for performance to a vehicle that can take you -- and all your gear -- on any road, any time, any reason. Shorter than a 5 Series, wider than a 7 Series, with more ground clearance than any other BMW, the X5 packs utility into a nimble vehicle. Following are some of the technological advances which make the X5 unique: -- BMW Head Protection System - The world's first system specifically designed to help protect the heads of occupants in side impacts. In recognition of this remarkable protection BMW was named the "Safe Car of the Millennium" by the International Brain Injury Association. HPS works in conjunction with front door-mounted side airbags and 2-stage front Smart Airbags to provide the optimum in occupant protection. -- Dynamic Stability Control - The latest version of BMW's electronic stability enhancement system, DSC-X, was designed specifically for the X5. DSC-X greatly enhances stability and traction on all types of road surfaces. -- Hill Descent Control - HDC engages with the push of a button to help ensure a constant speed on steep downhill declines and maintain grip on slippery slopes. -- Dynamic Brake Control - Increases braking pressure during an emergency stop. -- Advanced Independent Suspension with Unitized Body Construction - Both combine to offer the highest levels of handling, stability and control without sacrificing ride comfort or maneuverability. -- Massive Disc Brakes - 13.1 inch ventilated front discs and 12.8 inch solid rear discs provide reassuring stopping power under even the most extreme conditions. An array of options will allow owners to individualize their X5. Like other BMW models the X5 will be available with a Sport Package. Priced at $2,470 it includes 19 x 9.0 inch front and 19 x 10.0 inch rear cast alloy wheels, 255/50R-19 front/285/45R-19 rear performance-rated tires, sport suspension calibration, 8-way power sport seats with manual thigh support, shadowline trim, titanium-colored grill insert, black chrome exhaust pipes and white turn-signal lenses. Also available is an "Activity Package" which includes a high-pressure headlight cleaning system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, three-stage heated front seats and a ski bag. It will be offered at $850. Unique in its class, the X5 offers options such as Xenon headlights, BMW integrated Navigation System, Park Distance Control and retractable load floor. Similar to other BMWs, X5 options will include in-dash CD player, heated steering wheel, self-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, advanced on-board computer, premium audio system with Digital Sound Processing, moonroof and lumbar support.
