Arizona Offers Motorists Tax Incentives for Alternative Fuel Use

ADVISORY/Arizona Offers Motorists Tax Incentives for Alternative Fuel Use

    --Sept. 1, 1999--

TOPIC: Arizonans who purchase a new, alternative fuel-powered vehicle can receive a tax credit of up to $5,000 or 30 percent of the vehicle's total cost, due to legislation passed by the state government. The tax credit is applied as a reduction to the annual income tax bill, not a refund, and may be "carried forward" for five years if any credit dollars remain unused. While such incentives are tempting, the lack of alternative fuel stations poses a problem to the program's success.
