McLaren "Power" on Display in Cadillac Racecar at SEMA Show

LAS VEGAS--Nov. 2, 1999--Every November, automotive manufacturers, aftermarket companies, and enthusiasts gather in Las Vegas to see what's new in their industry. The 1.5 million square-foot SEMA Show showcases the most advanced automotive thinking in a trade show environment with over 5200 displays.
OEM manufacturers view this show as a critical opportunity to display its most advanced products and prototypes. This year, the well-known powertrain development firm, McLaren Engines, has had an integral part in the development of a vehicle displayed by General Motors, Cadillac Division.
In addition to products and prototypes headed for production, the show features the latest in racing and motorsports products as well. Perhaps the most exciting factory race vehicle to be displayed at the 1999 SEMA show is the Cadillac LeMans racecar, which will spearhead Cadillac's return to the LeMans 24-hour race after a hiatus of 50 years.
Following a private announcement at Las Vegas' new Race Rock cafe, the car will take center stage as Cadillac's component of the General Motors corporate display within the SEMA show -- see it at booth No. 7243.
The Cadillac racecar features the efforts of several major race-proven organizations, including chassis design by renowned race fabricators Riley and Scott.
Powering the Cadillac LMP prototype class racer is a full race version of the famous Cadillac Northstar V8. Selected to handle the all-important development and preparation of the racing Northstar V8 is McLaren Engines.
McLaren Engines was originally founded to support the North American racing activities of what was then known as Bruce McLaren Motor Racing. The Livonia-based powertrain firm has a long and successful racing history in the CART, Can Am, and IMSA racing series.
Cadillac selected McLaren Engines for this program based on its extensive racing heritage and proven performance, as well as its reputation for quality, as represented by McLaren's fully certified ISO 9001 registration, a standard for the industry. The company's ability to perform the required services within a single source environment was also cited.
McLaren Engines also has been instrumental in the development of numerous limited-production, high performance cars, including the renowned Buick Grand National GNX, the Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo, and the ASC/McLaren Mercury Capris.
McLaren Engines, a subsidiary of the McLaren Automotive Group, is a full service, ISO 9001 registered company, with its primary location in Livonia, Mich. McLaren Engines' capabilities include full production, prototype, and racing powertrain design and development programs, software/calibration and development, emission testing and certification programs, prototype component and vehicle builds, driveability development, component/vehicle durability testing, system design/development/mapping and manufacturing, and field service support. Their sister division, McLaren Traction Technologies, is located in Santa Barbara, Calif. and is best known for its patented Gerodisc limited slip differential technologies, used in the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
