Motor Trend Magazine Names the Lincoln LS 2000 'Car of the Year'PHOENIX, Nov. 24 -- MOTOR TREND magazine today announced the Lincoln LS as its pick for 2000 "Car of the Year" at the Phoenix Civic Plaza in conjunction with the Arizona International Auto Show. In naming the winner, MOTOR TREND applauded the LS' European-style handling, outstanding value, elegant refinement and rewarding, fun-to-drive nature. "It's a dramatic departure, not only for Lincoln, but for the American auto industry," noted C. Van Tune, Editor-in-Chief of MOTOR TREND. "The Lincoln LS is the first domestic sport/luxury car that really competes with the best from Europe and Japan." This year marks the 50th anniversary of MOTOR TREND's "Car of the Year" program. It is the most coveted award in the automotive industry. This is also the first "Car of the Year" in 25 years that includes both domestic and import models. A total of 30 vehicles vied for the title, making it one of the most competitive programs in the magazine's history. The "Car of the Year" win is also a coup for Lincoln -- their Towne Car won the accolade in 1990, and the LS win bookends the decade for the car company. The "Car of the Year" award ceremony was also simulcast on broadcast.com and can be accessed via satellite at the following coordinates: TELSTAR 6K (Ku), Transponder 14, Downlink 11966.5 (1:30 - 1:45PM EST news feed).
