Meet America's Top Car Nut

17 December 1999

Meet America's Top Car Nut; Aston Martin Jaguar Saab of Troy to Host David E. Davis Jr. Book Signing December 17
DETROIT, Dec. 16 -- He may be the most influential automotive
journalist of our time, but he calls himself simply a "car nut." He is David
E. Davis Jr., the wickedly wise and witty founder and editor of Automobile
Magazine.
On December 17, 1999, from 6-8 p.m., Aston Martin Jaguar Saab of Troy will
host Davis as he launches his new book, "Thus Spake David E." The evening
will include cocktails and hors d'oeuvres as well as time for questions and
answers with Davis. Davis will sign copies of the book and mingle with
guests.
Time magazine has dubbed Davis, "the dean of America's automotive
critics." His irreverent and provocative prose has graced the pages of Road &
Track, Car and Driver, and Automobile Magazine in a career that began in 1957.
"Thus Spake David E." gathers the best of his columns, passionate writing
about everything from cars to hunting, and from women to whiskey.
Readers will see why Davis' vast and loyal following includes the likes of
best-selling novelist Elmore Leonard, who says, "David E. admits he's an actor
playing himself. He's also a writer using his own voice, and it's
spectacular. It's entertainment."
Entertainment is certainly Davis' aim, whether the venue is reading or
driving. And that's where Jaguar comes in. Indeed, a Jaguar -- the 1946 XK
120, to be precise, appears in "Thus Spake David E." on Davis' list of, "the
24 most important automobiles of the century." He writes: "That Jaguar fueled
the fantasies that have danced before me ever since." David holds that one
car responsible for changing the course of his life, making him who and what
he is.
The David E. Davis book signing takes place December 17, 1999, from
6-8 p.m., at Aston Martin Jaguar Saab of Troy, located at 1815 Maplelawn,
Troy, Michigan.
