ADVISORY/Clinton To Announce New Restrictions on SUV Emissions

    --Dec. 21, 1999--

TOPIC: President Clinton is expected to propose new restrictions on auto emissions, in order to reduce smog-related pollutants by 90 percent over the next ten years, according to the Associated Press. The new standards, which would require SUVs and minivans to meet the same pollution standards as cars, would begin with 2004 models. The EPA is also ordering refiners to reduce sulfur amounts in gasoline. SUVs and light trucks currently represent half of the vehicles sold in the U.S.
