Ford's 'Bullitt' Mustang Leads the Chase at Greater L.A. Auto ShowFord Rolls Out Latest California Trendsetters LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6 -- Ford Division's introduction of the Mustang "Bullitt" concept car highlighted today's activity at the Greater L.A. Auto Show. Ford Division also presented the public premiere of the Desert Excursion concept sport utility vehicle. Ford Division captured the California annual sales crown for the 17th straight year in 1999, selling more cars and trucks in California than any other automotive division. Highlights of Ford's News Conference: * The World Premiere of the Mustang "Bullitt" concept car, based on the Mustang Fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 film's classic chase scene. * Ford's unveiling of the Focus Kona Edition Wagon Concept, with three modified Focuses, all aimed at the California "compact performance" market. * The presentation of a custom F-150 to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff Lee Baca was on hand to take the keys on behalf of the LASD. * Ford continued its leadership in the electric vehicle segment. The U.S. Postal Service recently placed an order of 500 Ford Ranger EVs, the largest order of electric vehicles in U.S. history, many of which will be used in California. * A Thunderbird concept car in a new color for this much anticipated car. * Taurus Supercharged concept, featuring radical design changes. * The Desert Excursion concept, a modified version of Ford's latest Sports Utility Vehicle offering.
