Gas Prices Increase 37 Cents Since Last Presidents' Day Holiday, AAA Reports
    BELLEVUE, Wash, Feb. 15 -- The average price of self-serve
regular unleaded gasoline in central and western Washington has increased
37.7 cents per gallon since last Presidents' Day to $1.404 per gallon. A
2.7 cent increase since December 1999.
    The national average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline jumped
7.8 cents per gallon in the last month to $1.367 per gallon, the highest it's
been since December 1990. Nationally, gasoline prices are up an average of
40.7 cents per gallon since February 1999, when the average price was 96 cents
per gallon.
    Gasoline prices have risen to this level in response to low inventories of
crude oil and a per barrel price of more than $30, reached yesterday.
