Delphi Automotive Systems Plays Role in Launching New Lamborghini Diablo
LOCKPORT, N.Y. Feb. 25 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
is helping Italian automaker Automobili Lamborghini launch its
newest vehicle for the brand new millennium, an updated version of the famed
Diablo.
Delphi's Harrison Thermal division is supplying the complete climate
control system for the new Lamborghini Diablo 6.0, which consists primarily of
the vehicle's heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit, but also
includes other related components.
Production of the vehicle's HVAC system began in January at Delphi Diavia,
the company's operation in Molinella, Italy. Delphi Diavia will assemble
approximately 400 HVAC units annually to support the new Diablo.
This marks the first time Delphi has supported Lamborghini with climate
control technology.
"As we enter a new century, the world's most prestigious automobile
manufacturers are turning to Delphi more often for their climate control
solutions," said Carlo Mantellini, director of Delphi Italy. "Our innovative
technology and commitment to excellent service will continue to lead to more
such successful partnerships."
In addition to the Lamborghini Diablo, which is manufactured in Sant'
Agata Bolognese, Delphi Diavia's Special Application Team is also responsible
for HVAC modules supplied to support several other Italian OEM programs.
Those include the Ferrari 360 Modena (and all other current Ferrari models),
the Alfa Romeo 156 sedan, and the Pagani Zonda C12.
Delphi Diavia's climate control system is fully automatic, integrated into
a state-of-the-art, carbonium-based digital instrument panel. The system is
managed by an Electronic Control Unit (ECU), which receives and processes data
on the external and internal climate conditions, and which includes a solar
sensor.
Delphi Diavia's electronic division developed the software that supports
the system's automatic control. The system meets passenger requirements for
flexibility, with the climate control system operable manually as well.
In addition to assembling the HVAC system, Delphi also manufactures the
Lamborghini's air-conditioning condenser, through its Ostrow, Poland facility.
The Lamborghini Diablo 6.0, which features a new six-liter, 550-horsepower
V12 engine, was launched in January by parent company Audi at the 2000 North
American International Auto Show in Detroit. (Audi, part of the Volkswagen
group, assumed control of Lamborghini in 1998.)
Delphi Automotive Systems, headquartered in Troy, Mich., USA, is a world
leader in transportation and mobile electronics components and systems
technology. Delphi's three business sectors -- Dynamics & Propulsion; Safety,
Thermal & Electrical Architecture; and Electronics & Mobile Communication --
provide comprehensive product solutions to complex customer needs. Delphi has
approximately 213,500 employees, and operates 175 wholly owned manufacturing
sites, 41 joint ventures, 53 customer centers and sales offices and 27
technical centers in 38 countries. Regional headquarters are located in
Paris, Tokyo and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Delphi can be found on the Internet at
