DEARBORN, Mich., March 31 The fight against breast cancer
is a race worth running. And in 2000, NASCAR fans can join Dale and Kelley
Jarrett, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and Ford Credit, co-
sponsor of the #88 Quality Care Service/Ford Credit Taurus, in their attempts
to eradicate this deadly disease.

Dale Jarrett and Linda Kay Peterson, chairman of the Dallas-based Komen
Foundation, opened the first "Race Fans for a Cure(TM)" booth in a ribbon
cutting ceremony yesterday, March 30 at the Ford Fan Appreciation Day event at
the Arlington Convention Center.
"Race Fans for a Cure(TM)" is a new initiative designed to increase
awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection, and to
provide a way for fans to support the Komen Foundation and its mission to
eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
"The Komen Foundation has enjoyed a wonderful partnership with Ford Credit
and the Jarretts through the years," said Linda Kay Peterson, Komen
Foundation. "This exciting new initiative will enable us to expand our
efforts, reaching more women with the life-saving message of early detection
and raising additional funds for breast cancer research and education
programs."
Ford Credit will sponsor "Race Fans for a Cure(TM)" booths at various
NASCAR Winston Cup events and Ford Fan Appreciation Days during the 2000 race
season. The booths will contain literature describing the Komen Foundation
and its mission, the three steps to early breast cancer detection, and will be
equipped to take donations from fans.
For a $1 donation at the booths, fans will personalize a pink ribbon for
inclusion on a banner to be displayed at Ford Credit's end-of-year check
presentation to the Komen Foundation. Fans will also receive a keepsake
enamel pink ribbon pin to show their support. All fan donations go directly
to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
"Kelley and I have been very proud to be a part of Ford Credit's
involvement with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation," said Dale
Jarrett. "The research to find a cure for this disease is important, and
we're glad that Ford Credit has found a way to involve NASCAR fans in our
effort to spread awareness of breast cancer and the steps for early detection.
Hopefully, we will be able to make a significant contribution to this cause."
"Race Fans for a Cure(TM)" will move its booth to Texas Motor Speedway on
Saturday and Sunday, April 1 & 2, and then continue the program at speedways
in Charlotte, Indianapolis, Phoenix and Homestead as well as Ford Fan
Appreciation Days in Detroit, Indianapolis and Miami.
As it did in 1998 and 1999, Ford Credit will also continue donating money
to the Komen Foundation for every top-three finish and each pole that Jarrett
earns during the 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup season.
Over the past two years, Ford Credit has donated $395,000 to the Komen
Foundation based on Jarrett's on-track performance and end of season bonuses.
Ford Credit gives the Komen Foundation $10,000 for each of Dale's wins, $5,000
for each pole, $7,500 for every second place finish and $5,000 for each third
place over the course of the season.
Including his victory in this year's Daytona 500, Jarrett's combination of
victories, top-three finishes and poles has amounted to $55,000 in donations
from Ford Credit to the Komen Foundation so far this season.
"This program has been a rewarding public service partnership," said
Bernard Silverstone, marketing manager for Ford Credit, North America. "It's
nice to work with good people like the Jarretts and the Komen Foundation to
promote positive change in our community."
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is the nation's largest
private funding source for breast cancer research and community outreach
programs. More than 40,000 volunteers work through local Affiliates and Komen
Race for the Cure(R) events to further the Foundation's mission of eradicating
breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education,
screening, and treatment.
The Ford Credit program is part of a larger corporate initiative at Ford
Motor Company involving the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
A national sponsor of the Komen Race for the Cure(R) Series, Ford Motor
Company, its Ford Division, their dealers, and Ford Credit have donated more
than $2 million in national and local contributions since their involvement
began in 1995.
