Women Have a Group Ride All Their
Own During Sonomafest 2000

SONOMA, Calif. - Riding motorcycles isn't strictly for men anymore, just ask Jocelyn Kane.

"The numbers of women riding motorcycles is growing and that's important," said Kane, owner of Mota, a motorcycle clothing and gear store in Berkeley designed for women. "We live in the Bay Area and there are a tremendous amount of women who ride."

If what Kane says is true, then female riders will be out in full force during Sonomafest 2000, a 10-day celebration for motorcycle enthusiasts at Sears Point Raceway, April 28-May 7. Kane, in conjunction with Sears Point, will host the first All-Women's Ride on Wednesday, May 3. Sonomafest, presented by Cruise America, was founded five years ago by Sears Point and Cycle World Magazine.

All riders will meet at Mota (1477 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, 510-527-6804) at 8:45 a.m. and begin the ride promptly at 9 a.m. It will be a leisurely trek to Sears Point Raceway through some of the most picturesque back-roads of the East Bay.

The caravan will arrive at Sears Point at 11 a.m., where it will pick up any additional women riders and continue on through the scenic Sonoma Valley. The group will eventually stop for lunch at one of the Sonoma Valley's famous wineries. Riders will be able to stop for a bite and take in some of the most breathtaking views in the world.

Then it's back on your bike for the return trip. All bikes and levels of riders are welcome, from beginner to advance. To participate in the All-Women's Ride, please meet at Mota in Berkeley at 8:45 a.m. If you can't get to Mota, meet the caravan at Sears Point at 11 a.m. For more information, please call Mota (number above) or Sears Point at 800-870-RACE.

The highlight of Sonomafest 2000 will be the Progressive Motorcycle Insurance AMA Superbike Challenge (May 5-7), featuring the top motorcycle road-racers in the country on Sears Point's demanding 12-turn, 2.32-mile course. The week prior will be AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days West (April 28-30), which will feature everything from swap meets to seminars to vintage racing on the road course.
