Free Vehicle VIN Etching Offered in Pennsylvania
25 April 2000
Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority Offer Free Vehicle VIN EtchingVehicle Identification Numbers Etched Onto Vehicle Windows As a Means of Theft Prevention BUTLER, Pa., April 25 The Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority along with the Pennsylvania State Police will be holding a free VIN etching event on Saturday, April 29, 2000 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Butler Intermediate School. VIN etching is a proven theft deterrent, where the Vehicle's Identification Number (VIN) is etched on to all the vehicle windows. Would-be thieves resist stealing a vehicle that is VIN etched because that vehicle is more easily identified and, if stolen, all glass must be replaced in order to remove traces of the VIN. This is a free service provided by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Authority. The Authority's staff, local and state police officers, and volunteers from local insurance companies will etch vehicles on a first-come, first-served basis. The program will end promptly at 2:00 p.m. The Authority encourages you to spend some time with them on Saturday morning to help protect your vehicle. Pre-event questions about the Authority may be directed to Ken Robinson at 215-485-1636 or 717-975-0812.
