Off-Road/On-Road Driving Course Comes to Dallas

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Showcased at Local EventDALLAS - As part of a nationwide tour, thousands of Dallas-area drivers will experience how thrilling on- and off-highway driving can be. They will be participating in Jeep(R) 101 and Chrysler Proving Grounds, special programs created by the Chrysler/Jeep Division of DaimlerChrysler Corporation. Jeep 101 is a challenging off-highway driving course designed to teach Jeep owners and prospective owners the basic skills of off-road driving, including negotiating steep downhill grades, log crossings and sand traps. Chrysler Proving Grounds allows drivers a safe environment in which to test the numerous features of Chrysler vehicles. Instructors will teach consumers driving techniques with ABS brakes, proper stopping distances, safe and quick lane changes and other day-to-day driving tips. WHY: Designed to demonstrate first-hand the capabilities of Jeep and Chrysler vehicles, the Jeep 101/Chrysler Proving Grounds programs were created to better prepare drivers for any situation, making them more confident in their driving skills and safer drivers of four-wheel drive vehicles. Lamar Blvd., Arlington, TX WHEN: Hours of operation: Friday and Saturday 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Jeep(R) 101/Chrysler Proving Grounds LIFE SKILLS DRIVING SEMINAR DaimlerChrysler Corporation is adding a life skills seminar to Jeep 101/ Chrysler Proving Grounds, their interactive customer loyalty programs as another step to ensure driver safety driving. Local city, county and state law enforcement officers will be on-hand in Dallas during Jeep 101/Chrysler Proving Grounds to discuss personal driving safety issues such as: Impaired Driving Segment -- three officers (one from each agency) will provide participants with information regarding the potentially deadly consequences of impaired driving as well as give participants the opportunity to attempt various activities with Fatal Vision goggles -- which effectively demonstrate the dramatic effect of impairment. Life Skill Driving Safety Segment -- will be taught by representatives of various local law enforcement agencies and include the following categories: * Child Safety Seat Installation: parents and grandparents will be instructed in the proper method of installing infant and child restraints in their motor vehicles. * Safety Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance: participants will be educated on the importance of properly maintaining their vehicles and safety equipment that should be available in their vehicle as well as the equipments' proper usage. * Mock Traffic Stop: the local law enforcement community will have the opportunity to demonstrate the proper procedures for drivers and passengers to follow during a routine traffic violation stop. * Regional Issues: law enforcement instructors will discuss topics affecting Dallas such as new safety laws, road rage, etc.
