Budget EV Rental Cars' Alternative Fuel Rental Fleet Hits Historic Millionth Mile MarkEarth-Friendly Vehicles Help Eliminate Eight Tons of Pollution And Save 50,000 Gallons of Gas LOS ANGELES, Oct. 18 Budget EV Rental Cars, a joint effort between EV Rental Cars and Budget Rent a Car Corporation, reached an historic milestone today when its environmental rental vehicle fleet hit its one millionth mile, a distance equal to circumnavigating the globe 40 times. "This marks an important turning point for the growing use of clean fuel vehicles and proves that these vehicles are a viable alternative," said Jeff Pink, president and founder of EV Rental Cars. "Preserving the Earth's resources and improving our quality of life is of great concern as we move forward in the new millennium." To commemorate the occasion, EV Rental Cars awarded a free rental to Martha Michael and John Graney, co-workers at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in St. Louis, Missouri who were driving a natural gas Honda Civic GX when Budget EV Rental Cars reached the million-mile mark. "I can't see why anyone wouldn't want to rent a natural gas vehicle," said Graney. "Not only are these vehicles good for the environment, it drives the same as a regular gas-powered vehicle. I didn't notice a difference in the power or pick-up." "This milestone further demonstrates how Budget EV Rental Cars leads the industry in offering successful environmental vehicle rental options," said Mark Sotir, president, Budget Rent a Car. By crossing the million mile mark, Budget EV Rental Cars has also made the following contributions: -- Prevented eight tons of air pollution -- Left 50,000 gallons of gasoline unused that conventional cars would have guzzled -- Saved renters nearly $50,000 in fuel costs since alternative fuels are less expensive Crossing the milestone of one million miles proves that environmental vehicle rentals are working for travelers across California and Arizona -- and the numbers back it up. Two years from its inception, and eight locations later, there have been 7,200 environmental vehicle rentals. To support the growing need and demand for clean fuel vehicles, there are currently more than 2,000 natural gas re-fueling stations across the country available to the public. In addition to fuel cost savings, significant time savings are made possible to renters as well. In California, Arizona, Georgia, and Virginia, drivers of qualified environmental vehicles are eligible to travel in the carpool lanes with a state issued decal even when they are unaccompanied by passengers.
